Dr. Osama Al-Qahtani
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in English Corporate Law and International Trade Law (Master of Laws) from Nottingham Trent University, UK. 2008-2009
- Doctor degree in Jurisprudence and its Fundamentals from the College of Education at King Saud University, Department of Islamic Studies. 2007.
- Master’s degree in Comparative Jurisprudence from the Higher Judicial Institute, at Al-Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University. 2001.
- Bachelor’s degree in Sharia from the College of Sharia in Riyadh. 1998

Scientific and Academic Expertise:
- Teaching Jurisprudence and Law in a number of universities: King Saud University, Dar Al Uloom University and Alfaisal University, and supervising some theses.
- Scientific/ professional participations in several official scientific conferences, seminars and lectures.
Practical Work Experience:
- Director of Legal Department in a large well-known joint-stock company (the Firm is still serving the same company as an “external” legal advisor and undertaking the same previous tasks for more than 10 years), in addition to its subsidiaries (five companies for now, one of which is a joint stock company in an Arabic country), ranging from manufacturers of military and civil explosives and pharmaceutical manufacturers and distributors under international commercial agency contracts, distribution agreements, etc. The duties include handling of all judicial and legal issues related to all of these companies, including participation in negotiations on investment, partnerships and international contracts, in addition to all court cases, including courts of general jurisdiction, criminal, labor, commercial, administrative, financial, insurance and customs courts.
- Currently, he runs a law firm (Dr. Osama AlQahtani Advocates and Legal Consultants) and acts as a legal advisor/ advocate for a number of government bodies, companies and individuals.
- The duties also involve preparing international and local contracts and agreements, including negotiation and sending correspondence and communications to other parties, and drafting and structuring specialized and complex contracts. As for the works undertaken by the Law Firm; assist in monitoring the compliance of joint stock companies listed on Stock Exchange with disclosure and governance obligations, following up the board of directors’ commitments towards such functions, reviewing all relevant board decisions, drafting Stock Exchange disclosures, in addition to writing legal responses and explanations related to CMA inquiries.
- Furthermore, a lot of large, medium and small-sized contracts have also been concluded, including technology transfer agreements, international trading partner agreements, supply contracts, two Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contracts; one in a Gulf state and the other in the Kingdom, and a number of international joint venture contracts, in addition to international commercial agency agreements. The value of these contracts ranges from about one billion to hundreds of thousands, etc.
- Participation in implementing international trade transactions such as company acquisition or merger, in addition to implementing international real estate transactions, taking into account the best tax solutions and property security. The Law Firm also supervised the implementation of a transaction to acquire a licensed real estate fund for another real estate fund.
- Participation in a number of international cases (court and arbitration cases) through the law firm direct supervision and guidance.
- Pleading and writing legal briefs of many cases in courts of general jurisdiction (and commercial courts), the administrative court, quasi-judicial committees such as the Committee for the Resolution of Securities Disputes, banking committee, insurance courts, customs courts, etc.
- Participation in a number of well-known cases that received extensive media coverage, such as the case of Al-Mojil Company, which was a case of great public interest, in the Committee for the Resolution of Securities Disputes, as well as a number of joint stock company cases that were mentioned in Stock Exchange announcements, whether related to companies and their business or those cases related to the business of individuals through stock trading.
- Participation in a number of commercial arbitration cases, whether by representing clients before arbitral tribunals or by serving as a member of the commercial arbitral tribunal.
- Participation in a number of scientific and professional seminars and courses in law, legal advocacy and arbitration.
- He is a member of the supervisory committee, studying the reform of the Saudi judicial system at Riyadh Economic Forum under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in 2015. The study is supervised by the Board of Trustees of Riyadh Economic Forum. The Ministry of Justice was also represented in the study and the study was presented in honor of His Excellency the Minister of Justice.
- Preparation of a study on developing the Saudi judicial system at the Economic Forum in 2015, which was submitted to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. In addition to his supervisory role in the study, the Law Firm was assigned, under a contract concluded with the Board of Trustees, to complete the preparation of the study (after the study being withdrawn from another firm). The study was properly completed and presented at the forum under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and in the presence of many eminent dignitaries and judicial and law experts in addition to interested persons and businessmen. The study also received great media coverage through a number of well-known media channels and newspapers.
- He worked as vice-chairman of the board of directors and a former board member of the Society for Culture and Arts, which is an independent institution established in 1396 AH. The board is appointed by a decision of His Excellency the Minister of Culture and Information. The Society for Culture and Arts operates through its branches in all regions of the Kingdom.
- He currently works as a member of the board of directors of the Saudi Bar Association headed by His Excellency the Minister of Justice. The Association is the supervisory and regulatory body over the Saudi lawyer’s sector. It is considered the center of excellence and academic accreditation for lawyer profession.
- Former weekly writer of opinion pieces in opinion page for about seven years in Al-Watan newspaper, where many of his legal and judicial writings, in addition to economic, and cultural opinions have been published.
- Participation in a lot of cultural seminars and lectures on many different occasions.
- Former legal columnist for Al Eqtisadiah (Economic) newspaper, in addition to his supervisory role – through the law firm – on the weekly Sawt Al Qanoon (The law voice) page in Al Eqtisadiah newspaper.
